How to add Locus to Claude.ai as a custom connector
To add Locus to Claude.ai or Claude Cowork, add a custom connector named Locus with the URL https://api.paywithlocus.com/api/credits/mcp, connect, and approve Locus. Then upload the three Locus skill zips in Customize, Skills. Claude can then call paid APIs from one Locus Pro credit balance.
Setup, step by step
Step 1
Create a Locus Pro account
Sign up at paywithlocus.com/pro. The Free plan has no subscription. Paid tool calls use prepaid credits.
Step 2
Add the custom connector
In Claude, open Customize, Connectors, Add connector, Add custom connector. Name it Locus and paste the URL below. The Locus dashboard also has an Add to Claude link that opens this form filled in.
https://api.paywithlocus.com/api/credits/mcp
Step 3
Connect and approve
Choose Add, then Connect. Sign in to Locus in the browser window and approve the connection.
Step 4
Upload the three skills
Download each zip. In Customize, Skills, choose +, Create skill, Upload a skill, and upload all three. Skills need code execution turned on.

Step 5
Check the connection
Start a new chat or Cowork task. Ask: "What's my Locus balance?" A balance check is free. If Claude returns your credit balance, setup worked.
Do I need the skills if the connector works?
Yes, for best results. The connector gives Claude the Locus tools. The skills teach it when to use them, how to pick an API, and how to build repeatable workflows.
Without the skills, Claude can still call get_locus_guide to read the same guidance on demand.
Why is Add custom connector greyed out?
On Team and Enterprise plans, only Owners can add custom connectors. In our test, a Team Admin who was not the Primary owner saw Add custom connector disabled.
Ask your organization Owner to add Locus in Organization settings, Connectors. Or add it from a personal Claude account.
Does the same setup work in Claude Cowork?
Yes. Cowork uses the same custom connector and the same uploaded skills. We tested Locus in a fresh Cowork task and in a claude.ai web chat. Both returned the balance with all three skills loaded.
Claude Code is different. It uses the Locus plugin. See the Claude Code and Claude desktop guides.
How do I fix connection errors?
Open Customize, Connectors, find Locus, and choose Connect again. Finish the Locus sign-in in the same browser. Then start a new chat.
Check that the URL is exactly https://api.paywithlocus.com/api/credits/mcp with no trailing text. You do not need to enter an OAuth client ID. Claude discovers it.
What can Claude do after setup?
Claude can search the Locus catalog, read an API's schema and price, and run the call against your credit balance. You do not need an account or key with each provider.
Frequently asked questions
Which Claude plans support custom connectors?
Anthropic lists Free, Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise. Free users are limited to one custom connector.
Does connecting Locus cost anything?
No. Adding the connector and checking your balance are free. Paid API calls use credits at the price shown before the call.
Can I revoke Claude's access later?
Yes. Disconnect or remove the connector in Claude, and revoke the connection in your Locus account.
