How to add Locus MCP to Cline

To add Locus Pro to Cline, run cline mcp install with the Locus MCP server URL, choose Remote (HTTP) and OAuth, and approve Locus in your browser. Then install the three Locus skills with npx skills add. Both steps are required. Cline can then call paid APIs from one credit balance.

Setup, step by step

  1. Step 1

    Create a Locus Pro account

Sign up at paywithlocus.com/pro. The Free plan has no subscription. Paid calls use prepaid credits.

  2. Step 2

    Install the MCP server

Run the install command. In the wizard, choose Remote (HTTP), choose OAuth, and leave the client ID blank.

cline mcp install locus --transport http https://api.paywithlocus.com/api/credits/mcp
  3. Step 3

    Approve Locus

Cline opens Locus in your browser. Sign in and approve the connection.

  4. Step 4

    Add the Locus skills

Run this in your project folder. Select locus, locus-setup, and locus-workflows when prompted.

    npx skills add locus-technologies/locus-pro-plugin
  5. Step 5

Start a new session and check

Start a new Cline session so the tools and skills load. Ask: What’s my Locus balance?

Why does Cline need both the MCP server and the skills?

The MCP install gives Cline the Locus tools. It does not install skills. The skills teach Cline when and how to use those tools, so skipping them leaves an agent that has tools but no instructions.

npx skills add copies the three skill folders into the project for Cline. Run it again in each project where you want them.

How do I fix a Cline MCP OAuth error?

Remove the server, run the install command again, and pick Remote (HTTP) and OAuth.

  • Remove the entry: cline mcp uninstall locus
  • Leave the client ID blank so Cline registers itself with Locus.
  • Check the URL is exactly https://api.paywithlocus.com/api/credits/mcp.
  • Start a new session after any change.

What can Cline do with Locus connected?

Cline can search the Locus catalog, read an endpoint schema and price, and run the call against your credits. You do not need an account or key with each provider.

The core tools are search_apis, describe_api, estimate_cost, execute, get_call_result, get_balance, and get_locus_guide. locus-workflows lets Cline save and rerun multi-step jobs.

Frequently asked questions

Which Cline version did you test?

Cline CLI 3.0.62. OAuth saved a Streamable HTTP entry, and a signed-in tools/list call returned the full Locus toolset.

Does Cline need a Locus API key?

No. Cline signs in with OAuth and keeps a refreshable token. Revoke the connection in your Locus account to cut off access.

Does checking my balance cost credits?

No. get_balance is free. Paid tools show their price before the call.
